Opened in 1878, the Winter Gardens was designed as a spectacular indoor retreat for holidaymakers, with grand promenades and spaces to escape the famously unpredictable seaside weather.

The Empress Ballroom

Built in 1896, the Empress Ballroom became the beating heart of Blackpool’s dance culture — and it still hosts world-famous competitions and major live events today.

The Opera House

The present Opera House opened in 1939 and is widely known as a 3,000-seat venue (current capacity is just under 2,900), making it one of the largest theatres in the UK for touring productions.

Named after film set designer Andrew Mazzei, who helped shape several Winter Gardens interiors in the 1930s. Many original Art Deco features were later uncovered and restored during refurbishment works.

South Beach

Further away, but ideal if your main priority is the Pleasure Beach and you are only travelling up to the Winter Gardens for one night.

• Houndshill Shopping Centre (multi-storey): FY1 4NY — approx. 150m to the Coronation Street entrance / 300m to the Church Street entrance (pay-on-return).
• Central Car Park: FY1 6AD — approx. 5-minute walk (pay & display).
• Talbot Road Multi-Storey: FY1 3AY — approx. 10-minute walk (often open until midnight).
• Adelaide Street / Alfred Street (open-air): FY1 4LA — approx. 200m to the Church Street entrance (pay & display).
