Brunel's Breakthrough

Designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, SS Great Britain was a landmark in Victorian engineering. She is famous for combining an iron hull with screw propulsion at an ocean-going scale.

Global Journeys

After her early years, the ship served long-distance routes and carried thousands of passengers and crew. Today you can explore on board and learn how life at sea really worked.

Saved and Restored

The ship returned to Bristol in 1970 and has since been conserved and restored as a major visitor attraction at the Great Western Dockyard.
