The Glasshouse Visitor Guide & Reviews (2026)

Standing on the south bank of the River Tyne, The Glasshouse is one of the most striking music venues in the UK. Its sweeping glass and steel curves, designed by Foster + Partners, catch the North East light in a way that still takes my breath away every time I cross the Millennium Bridge. Whether you are catching a concert, joining a guided tour or simply enjoying the free riverside views, understanding The Glasshouse ticket prices, finding convenient Newcastle parking and knowing what to expect will make your visit completely stress-free.

A Brief History of The Glasshouse

From Sage Gateshead to The Glasshouse

🏛️

Foster + Partners Design

The striking curved glass and steel building opened in 2004 as Sage Gateshead. Its three separate performance halls sit inside one flowing glass shell to give perfect acoustics and unforgettable views of the Tyne.

🎼

Home of Northern Music

It quickly became the permanent home of the Royal Northern Sinfonia and Folkworks, bringing classical, folk and contemporary music to the North East.

🔄

The New Name

In 2023 it was renamed The Glasshouse International Centre for Music. The building still shines as brightly as ever on the Quayside.

Did You Know? The acoustics are so good that even the smallest sounds carry perfectly. I once heard a single violin note echo beautifully across the main hall during a quiet rehearsal.
