What to See Inside Prior Park
Highlights of the landscape garden
The Palladian Bridge
The undisputed star of the show. Built in 1755, it crosses the lower lakes and creates a perfect, romantic reflection in the water.
The Cabinet
A beautifully restored viewpoint at the top of the garden that offers arguably the most famous, sweeping panorama over the city of Bath.
The Lakes & Cascades
Wander down to the bottom of the combe to see the restored dams and enjoy the tranquil sound of water cascading through the landscape.
The Steep Valley Walk
Are you prepared for the hills?
It cannot be overstated: Prior Park is set within a very steep valley. While the walk down from the entrance to the Palladian Bridge is easy and scenic, the walk back up requires a reasonable level of fitness. Wear sensible, sturdy shoes, take your time, and use the benches provided to catch your breath while enjoying the view!
Prior Park Crowd Heatmap
The best and worst times to visit
🟢 10:00 am to 11:30 am
Morning Peace. Arriving just as it opens guarantees quiet paths and empty photographs on the Palladian Bridge.
🟡 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm
Late Afternoon. The bulk of the daytime crowds begin their trek back up the hill, leaving the lower lakes relatively serene.
🔴 12:00 pm to 2:30 pm
Peak Chaos. The busiest time, especially on sunny weekends. The pathways can feel slightly congested, and seating is scarce.
Trav’s Insider Hack: The Skyline Walk
“Squawk! Make a full day of it by combining Prior Park with the famous Bath Skyline Walk. The six mile circular route is very close to the garden, so you can easily link the two and earn your evening meal!”
