Tucked in the rolling hills of the Cotswolds, Sudeley Castle is one of those places that feels truly special the moment you arrive. As the only private castle in England to have a queen buried on its grounds, it blends living history with award-winning gardens. Knowing the Sudeley Castle ticket prices, understanding the free on-site parking, and planning your time properly will make your day out completely stress-free. Having wandered the grounds on many occasions, I can tell you the light on the stone ruins at golden hour is something you will never forget.

A Brief History of Sudeley Castle

From medieval fortress to Tudor treasure

🏰

Medieval Beginnings

Construction began in 1443 for Ralph Boteler, Lord High Treasurer. The castle was later seized by the Crown and passed through the hands of Edward IV and Richard III.

👑

Tudor Connections

Henry VIII visited with Anne Boleyn in 1535. Katherine Parr, his last wife, lived and died here in 1548 and is buried in St Mary's Chapel - the only queen buried in a private English castle.

🌳

Victorian Restoration

The Dent-Brocklehurst family restored the castle in the 19th century. Today it remains their family home while welcoming visitors to explore its rich history.

Did You Know? Standing in St Mary's Chapel where Katherine Parr rests always feels incredibly moving - the quiet atmosphere stays with you long after you leave.
